Cathy's Road to Manhattan

I am sure that you have felt it... The feeling of should I or shouldn't I?... Ohhh but I want to,.. ohh but it is sooo scary. That's a lot of walking - heck that's alot of money... Well I did it! After years (literally) of thinking about it. I have finally registered, received my packet (NY # 6152), asked the first (in a line of many) for financial support, been to the pledge page and bethepeople more than I can count. ALL of the worries, the "ohmygosh's", I can't do its, and "boy that's alots" have been replaced with - I can't wait, let's take another walk, 60 miles isn't t-h-a-t far, WOW! and can you believe I AM DOING THIS!!!

My name is Cathy Kirkham and I work for Avon Products, Inc. the sponsor of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and the largest corporate sponsor of Breast Cancer Research. Avon's dream is to raise $250 million dollars for Breast Cancer Research by the end of 2002. The crusade is helping to fund access to care and find a cure for breast cancer. The goal is to benefit all women with a BIG emphasis on reaching the elderly and minority women with inadequate health insurance.

The 3 Day walks are designed to raise money through walkers and crew members raising money. Walkers are required to raise a minimum of $1,900 each, as you can see by my registeration number I am the 6152st person to register at the New York site alone. Raising the required $1900 is a scary step, being one in a myraid of many, many others as I train and prepare for the 60 mile trek ahead of me.

I am preparing for " The road to manhattan" by what else, walking, and walking and you guessed it more walking. The 60 miles will take me from Bear Mountain New York to downtown Manhattan in early October 2002. I will sleep in a sleeping bag, in a tent, use porta-potties, eat catered meals and best of all raise much needed awareness and money for this dreaded disease. It is a delight to think that 40 isn't too old to have a camp out (just like girl scouts!)

Please sign my guest book to let me know that you visited me - encouraging words are ALWAYS appreciated. Also check out my diary to see how I am taking each step. If you can find a little extra in your pocket or wallet to help with the "Road to Manhattan" please go to www.bethepeople.com and make a donation for walker 6152 in NY. Thank you in advance for your support and encouragement!
